The Friendship of Trials

Each of our lives is chock full of trials, some minor irritations and others hitting us like a personal earthquake! Our natural reaction is to wish for a carefree life absent of such discomforts. But what if trials were actually gifts allowed into our lives for our eternal good? Might we then welcome them as friends?

What the Children Deserve

Lately, I heard someone give voice to an all-too-familiar phrase in the Christian lexicon.  One that sounds piously self-defacing and is, I’m sure, intended to exalt God. However, on closer examination I believe it ends up doing just the opposite, stealing from God a goodly part of the glory of his Fatherhood!

The unfortunate expression is this: We deserve hell.

Mere Christianity: The Practical Conclusion

We've now arrived at the fifth and final episode of our five-part journey of exploration into what Christians believe as laid out so well by C.S. Lewis in a portion of his book, Mere Christianity. Together, these five segments have taken us along a footpath of unerring logic, each segment building on the previous and culminating in this final episode.

What you are about to hear in The Practical Conclusion picks up where Episode 4 left off. In it, the flawless logic of C.S. Lewis leads us to an inescapable and haunting conclusion, one that is impossible to shake off and dismiss.

Mere Christianity: The Perfect Penitent

This is the fourth episode of our five-part journey of exploration into what Christians believe as laid out so well by C.S. Lewis in a portion of his book, Mere Christianity. Together, these five segments walk us along a footpath of unerring logic, each segment building on the previous and culminating in what Lewis referred to as The Practical Conclusion.

Anyone familiar with Lewis’ writings cannot help but appreciate how well he makes his arguments through the use of easily grasped illustrations that intrigue and add weight to his position. Though these illustrations come from a time in England quite past and some can seem rather outdated to modern ears, the disadvantage is slight and hardly detracts from their impact.

What you are about to hear now in The Perfect Penitent picks up where Episode 3 left off and does a marvelous job of looking at what is called the "Atonement" in a way that is both simple and profound.

If we are keen of mind and open of heart, I believe these writings will go a very long way in clearing the fog of ignorance and misunderstanding that can so easily languish about our heart.
